lookbook: Gerard Darel Automne/Hiver 2016

Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns. * Something must have gone wrong with the autumn we have in Poland cause it's so far from what I see in editorials and other European blogs. The way things are outside makes me a bit sentimental and in my mind's eyes I like to go back in time to the days when I was a bit younger and autumn was all about trench coats and paisley prints covering woollen foulards. It was also the time when the sun would shine tuning fallen leaves into fields of gold. It was also the time when I would be sat in my room counting the days until the next ski jumping season and thinking about cozy evenings by the fireplace. Are these days gone forever?

So far autumn has been a little pain in the neck and turned me into a little bundle of nerves, so I started thinking of a little getaway. Being sick of gloomy Warsaw, I like to stumble upon new tumblrs and browse lookbooks in hope to brighten up my mood and take me for a ride through beautiful towns. As you might have noticed, I'm a fan of French aesthetics and the oh so hackneyed Parisian style. It must have started with Inès de la Fressange' book because that's when I fell for simple yet eclectic pieces and was almost
ready to trade my flat for an apartment in a tenement somewhere in the Old Town. Eventually I didn't do this but my heart beats a little faster when I see some serious architecture porn (this is not to say I find contemporary architecture less worthy).

It also must have been around that time when I came across Gerard Darel and their shop in a shopping centre near my flat. Generally speaking I don't like big department stores and all the crowds there but I know a good shop when I see one. So it was this time. Soft fabrics (silk, wool and cashmere) has me at hello. And the friendly staff made the visit even nicer and I still like to pop there from time to time with my Mum,  not really to do some shopping but sometimes only to have a look. Recently we've fallen in love with an amaranthine pullover but there are more things I would gladly welcome in my closet. That's why when I was looking for some inspiration for my lookbook series, I immediately thought of Gerard Darel.

French style is something I’d describe as effortlessly chic with the stress put on chic. I’ve never been to Paris (yet!) but I’ve seen some French towns and when I looked at the people, I could easily tell they all looked so perfect but at the same time I had the feeling they couldn’t care less that they were wearing the latest trends and their outfit costed as much as a trip around the world. But this is what real style is all about. That’s why I love French clothing brands so much for they pull out the straight-from-the-runway looks so easily and really make me want to look for some hidden gems in vintage stores to stand out from the crowd (although, truth be told, when it’s so windy and gloomy outside the only way I wanna look is warm enough not to get cold).

With the arrival of November it may be my wishful thinking to hope for some warm and sunny days so that I can still wear loafers with fishnet tights and sport cool sunglasses to appear even more mysterious. I may be a bit naive but I’m still hoping for croissants, hot chocolate and cosy tea gardens.
