My mum bought me this top 4 years ago at Mango. Back in the days it used to be my favourite one and I was head over heels in love with the drawing on it. It's size L (cause back in the days it was the size of my clothes) so it was pretty loose what made it a prefect summer tee. It also has an open back so it used to be my favourite piece that would go perfectly with my bikini. But then I got a little slimmer and now that I wear size XS the shirt became too big. As I used to wear it day and night it also got a little damaged and I saw two small holes in the lower part of the shirt. And to make matters worse they were on the part of the drawing so it was impossible to sew them. That is why I decided to throw it away. But it seems that everything happens for a reason as the piece is still in my closet and I decided to breathe some new life into it.
Here's the story: Some weeks ago I decided to do a little makeover in my wardrobe and throw away all the pieces that I no longer wear. I used to have the habit of saving things for a rainy day and that's why I ended up having a lot of clothes hanging loose and my drawers were stuffed with countless tees and sweaters. Some of the clothes that were to be thrown away could still be worn that's why I decided to pack them all and give them to the ones who may need them. But there were also some pieces that were worn out or had some holes and the only place for them was the litter bin. The t-shirt that you can see on the pictures was in the second category. But since I decided to bring all the clothes to my dining room instead of making the great selection in my sleeping room, I made a little mess and accidentally put this one into the first category. Then I gave all the clothes to my mum and she decided to wash them before they find a new owner. Then she started talking that she found out that tee and she brought it back to Warsaw and I was like 'well, I don't know why you have it. It's torn and I wanted to throw it away.' And that's the thing I was planning when I got it back.
But then I took a look at the drawing and decided to cut it out and sew it onto another t-shirt or pillow. That sounded like a good idea but then I reminded myself of the holes in the lower part and decided to redesign the piece a little. And here's what came. A brand new pretty loose cropped shirt.
Moral of the story? Don't throw away every damaged piece of clothing. Sometimes it can be rescued and given a brand new life.
Btw this story encouraged me to experiment with designing clothes. I remember that when I was 18 I wanted to devote myself to styling and fashion. I even wanted to study fashion design but I knew that people would think it's stupid. But since my mum used to do a bit of design when she was a student, I guess I might as well do the same. If something cool emerges from this, I'll update you cause I will probably be swelling with pride and the world and his wife will have to know.
