the Viennese weekender

One week ago I, once again in my life, decided to leave the safe harbour and spend a few weeks in Vienna, hoping for some utopian conditions of borderless academic life to which I have been used to for such a long time. But as you know, variety is the spice of life and this year my stay in Vienna looks pretty much different to what I'd been expecting. I wish I could throw some confetti in the air right now to celebrate another brand new adventure but what I'm actually doing right now is looking at a bottle of Roter Stroch which has been standing on my desk for way too long desperately begging for attention and offering a few sips of what I liked to call my favorite Austrian wine.

I should had developed a habit of cleaning the room once arrived in a new place back in Israel when I had the luck to share my dorm flat not only with a cool girl from Romania but also with a bunch of cockroaches. Anyway, I'm still pretty much naive and was hoping my room here would be spick and span. To my great surprise (and yes, this was a surprise indeed and happened to me for the first time when in Vienna), I was greeted with dust on the chest of drawers behind my bed, the lamp on it, the floor and, sadly enough, even on the plates given to me upon arrival. I don't wanna complain but my eyes don't seem to be so calm as for the past few days I've been sort of struggling with conjunctivitis combined with a brand new allergy to my brand new eye cream. What a nice way to start a month in a new city! So my advice for all of you (and especially for those whose eyes are as sensitive as mine) is to tidy up and double check the room in your dorm anywhere in the world.

I've been to Vienna so many times I lost count and I know most of its places so it's hard to see me playing a typical Asian tourist photographing everything all around during his Europe in 3 days kind of trip. Instead I take long walks, marvel at the architecture and enjoy all things vegan there are in town. Yup, having the access to all my favourite vegan snacks, smoothies and other beverages has been the best part of the stay so far. And that's probably one of the very few (if not the only one) things I'm gonna miss when I come back to Poland (it may be not popular to say but I'm already counting the days).

In other (last but definitely not least!) news My Boy is arriving on Thursday and is gonna keep me company in my Viennese misery for 11 days so soon I'm probably gonna be the happiest person in Vienna and my posts will contain a huge dose of optimism.
